In this project, I want to learn how to create fake 3D objects in After Effects. I chose to make a short intro video for the song "Melty Land Nightmare" by Harumaki Gohan. The song tells the story of two girls falling in love in a dream. It has a dreamy and fantastical feeling in its music video, and I want to recreate that atmosphere in my own art style.

Creating fake 3D diamond by adjusting rectangles angle
Creating fake 3D diamond by adjusting rectangles angle
When designing, I noticed that my strokes kept losing weight when I turned them into 3D space. This happens because strokes are flat, and when using a 3D layer, a 2D stroke has no thickness when viewed from different angles. I found two solution to solve this problem.

Solution #1
Solution #1
Similar to the diamond, duplicate multiple layers and offset their position to create a 3D stroke.
Pros: Hold shape nicely when transforming
Cons: Sometimes break when the side is facing the camera, time consuming

Solution #2
Solution #2
Using the script creating null from path, without turning the stroke to 3D layer, it can hold the thickness when transforming.
Pros: Easy to control and transform
Cons: Sometimes the circle is not round
